Constitutional Review Update 25 July 2025

The consultation period on the Options Paper is now closed. Thank you to all those who gave feedback.

We are reviewing your feedback at the moment and writing the revised constitution to get it ready for review by our lawyers, before it comes back to our members.

This pānui (message) is to give you an update on where we’re at and what’s next on the programme.

Here’s what we cover in this pānui:

  1. The next member engagement in August
  2. Timeline of next steps
  3. What’s happening right now
  4. Final notes

We also have Frequently Asked Questions page for more information on the Constitution Review Programme.

The next member engagement will be in August
We are now writing the revised constitution and getting it reviewed by lawyers.

Then we aim to have the draft Constitution with you by mid-August. This will be a three-week consultation period.

After this, we’ll consider the feedback and then release the final revised constitution in September for us to vote on at a Special General Meeting. The Special General Meeting will be in October.

Timeline of next steps
August:
Call for members feedback on the draft revised constitution
September: Invite to members to attend a Special General Meeting to approve the revised constitution.
October: Special General Meeting to vote on accepting the revised constitution.

What’s happening right now
Right now, we’re writing the proposed revised constitution. This process considers all your feedback. We are also checking we haven’t missed anything from the current constitution and getting legal advice.

Final notes
We are looking forward to sharing the updated constitution with you. We’re confident that this process has been robust and worked to incorporate the voices of members who have shared their feedback.

If you have not had your say yet, there will be an opportunity in August. If you haven’t received our membership updates, please email: info@dpa.org.nz and we’ll check your contact details are up to date.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact info@dpa.org.nz
