DPA supports an overall focus on wellbeing and responding to Covid in the budget, especially since wellbeing and health outcomes for disabled people and their whānau remain much poorer than the general population.

Disabled children and young people are overrepresented in the care and services of the Oranga Tamariki system, any changes to the monitoring and oversight of this system will have a disproportionate impact on the future wellbeing of disabled children and young people and their whānau.

DPA welcomes the Christchurch City Council’s proposal to replace the ageing Akaroa Wharf with what will hopefully be a more inclusive, accessible and safer wharf.

DPA's submission highlights the importance of accessibility and universal design as crucial to promoting inclusion for everyone in our community, including for disabled people.

DPA welcomes the general principles informing this draft coastal plan. Acknowledging the draft plan has incorporated some disability community input, it is also evident that other perspectives have been missed including those of blind and vision impaired people and older people, amongst others.
