The two-decade-old Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002 is being replaced with the Emergency Management Bill. The Bill will create the new legal framework within which Aotearoa New Zealand can prepare for, deal with, and recover from local, regional and national emergencies.

One of its key aims is to develop inclusive, community-led responses to natural disasters and health emergencies, as well as foster better relationships between emergency management authorities and Māori.

We are looking at putting in a submission and would like to hear members' feedback on the Bill.

Submissions close on 3 November 2023. You can email any views to policy@dpa.org.nz by 20 October 2023.
