Office of the Privacy Commissioner is seeking feedback from DPA for their newly launched project about privacy for tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people. This will ultimately consider whether the current laws and regulations protecting privacy rights of tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people are working, today and in the future.
All tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people can expect that their information (things like their name, address, age, photos, videos, and whakapapa) is respected and looked after.
There are some unique challenges and opportunities that relate to the privacy of tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people as they interact with health and education services and the online world.
Currently, the consultation is with professionals and NGOs working with or advocating for tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people. The consultation is to find out about current privacy rules and regulations in the workplace, and/or concerns about the current setup. If you are a professional or represent a non-government organisation advocating for tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people, share your views by 30 November 2023.
In early 2024, the Office will ask to hear directly from tamariki/children and rangatahi/young people, as well as from whānau and the wider community.
