There's a Government Inquiry underway looking into the response to the North Island severe weather events earlier this year (Cyclone Hale, Cyclone Gabrielle, and the heavy rainfall in Hawke’s Bay, Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Tairāwhiti, Tararua, and Bay of Plenty).

The weather events caused loss and trauma to people, households and communities, and billions of dollars of damage.

The Inquiry Panel would like to hear stories and experiences from people and community groups about the weather events, so it can make recommendations about how we, as a country, prepare for future weather events.

The Inquiry Panel is being led by former Governor General, Sir Jerry Mateparae – GNZM QSO KStJ along with John Ombler – CNZM QSO, Rangimarie Hunia, and Julie Green.

There is an online submission form that takes 10-20 minutes to complete, information in an easy-to-read format, resources for community groups to participate in online discussions, and a portal to submit reports.

Find out more and make a submission for the Share to Prepare inquiry into North Island severe weather events.

Submissions through the online submission tool close 30 November 2023.
