With the restructure at Te Whatu Ora underway, the Disability Strategy Team say it has yet to find out what the new structure is, but "that:
- Te Whatu Ora has expressed a commitment to prioritise tangata whaikaha | disabled people
- There are actions in Te Pae Tata (interim health plan) to improve access to healthcare services and equity for tangata whaikaha | disabled people
- There is agreement that the disability team needs to be positioned where it can work with many parts of the organisation all over New Zealand."
The Disability Strategy Team is currently based at Capital Coast Hutt Valley, but work at a national level. In addition to their work, the team has been developing and delivering multiple different types of education for Te Whatu Ora staff about disability equity, Enabling Good Lives, and reframing disability.
