After many years of campaigning for a law to ensure accessibility, the Government has responded by introducing the Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill, however the Bill before the committee is not what was called for.

Submissions on the Bill close next Monday 7 November.

Quick submission form

Access Matters have set up a quick submission form so that you can easily have your say by filling in this quick Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill submission form.

Choose to make an oral submission only (including NZSL)

In recognition that written submissions may be challenging for some people who wish to give input on the bill, there is the option to make an oral submission only.

If you would like to only make an oral submission you need to let the Social Services and Community Committee staff know by Monday 7 November 2022.

The staff will talk with you about a day and time for you to speak to the Committee. You can also use New Zealand Sign Language to make your submission. You will need to let the staff know so they can have an interpreter.

To contact Social Services and Community Committee staff:

  • email ssc@parliament.govt.nz
  • post to Social Services and Community Secretariat, Parliament Buildings, Wellington, 6160
  • phone: 0800 7273 6282

Make a submission directly to Parliament

You can also make a submission on the Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill on the New Zealand Parliament website
