Having previously supplied feedback on the existing existing Access to Hamilton: Disability Policy, DPA have taken the opportunity to further highlight the need for a Disability Strategy and Action Plan that is underpinned by the the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

We recommended placing Universal Design accessibility features in new parks and playgrounds and additional investment in footpaths and mobility crossings throughout the city. We welcomed Council’s plans to increase patronage and improve public transport, recommending that local disabled people and organisations be involved as co-design partners in upgrade work around bus stops.
