Our Mahi Tika – Equity in Employment team will be travelling across the Waikato region soon and are keen to meet up with disabled people in the area who are seeking employment.
Disabled people are prioritised as an equity group in Te Pae Tata. This commitment is an historic moment. It is the first time disabled people have been formally recognised as a priority group in the New Zealand health system.
On Saturday 15 October we held a Bubble Hui to discuss the Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill. There was strong feeling that the Bill is inadequate, needs to be rewritten, and many people said they would like to see the Bill withdrawn so that it can be started on again from scratch.
An online petition calling on Te Herenga Waka to guarantee universal access to lecture recordings has been started by VUWSA, the Students’ Assembly, Student Academic Committee and the National Disabled Students Association.
